T-ARA Comeback 'Will Be The Second Coming Of Gangnam Style' - Or Will It?

Those feisty T-ARA girls are ready for their Korean comeback after spending the last several months focusing on efforts in Japan.

Their first-ever original Japanese single, "Bunny Style" is currently doing extremely well in the J-Pop charts and was a nice follow up to the 'Best Of' album released late last year to commemorate the one-year anniversary of their Japanese debut.

Now the dynamic gals have their sights set on Korea again, and even in the wake of some rather serious scandals, appear confident they can prevail in the tough market.

Earlier this week it was announced that T-ARA will be making their official comeback sometime in late April or early May. But there is a catch. The comeback will be made by a sub-group of only Jiyeon, Eunjung, Hyomin, and Areum.

We see what the management is doing here. The three most popular T-ARA members plus a new addition with absolutely no ties to the scandalous past of the group - smart thinking. Especially after severe backlash from netizens for the various bullying incidents that were made public, weeding out those bad seeds may just be the right move if the pop group hopes to regain popularity in their home country.

But, we have to ask ourselves, is this sub-T-ARA group setting their sights too high?

In a surprising announcement on Wednesday, their label said that the comeback song "will hopefully be the second coming of 'Gangnam Style.'"

Seriously? It that even possible? Psy himself is even wondering if he will be able to come close to his "Gangnam Style" success with his new single set to be released on April 13. What makes T-ARA think they can do it?

Sure, in their prime they did gain notoriety for their catchy tunes and simple, yet silly dance moves ("Bo Peep Bo Peep" anyone?).

But "Gangnam Style" encompasses way more than just that. "Gangnam Style" is Psy himself. That slightly awkward, yet highly approachable guy who can even convince your grandma to boogie.

T-ARA, on the other hand, have appearances to keep up, poise to maintain, and trust to win back. It seems highly unlikely, then, that they will be able to let lose enough to even think of dance craze and accompanying music video to rival Psy's "Gangnam Style." We are still holding our breaths to see if the man himself can do it.

Furthermore, it has been said that the dance for T-ARA's upcoming single was inspired by the "Y.M.C.A." Is that really how they are going to do it? Rival the most popular song and dance in the history of the world by recycling old disco moves? Are they going to dress up in Village People costumes too?

Sorry, T-ARA, but it is just going to take a lot more than that.
