Terminator Genisys' Sequel Not In The Cards? Film's International Success Justifies Emilia Clarke's Casting?

Despite the huge international box-office success of "Terminator Genisys," a sequel at this point is still very much in the air. Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke's casting, which was blamed as the main reason for the paltry North American ticket sales, was justified by how much the rest of the world accepted her.

"Terminator Genisys stormed to the top of the Chinese box office over the past week, adding $58 million for an eight-day total of $82.8 million, which is just shy of its North American cumulative gross of $89.4 million after nine weeks," said The Hollywood Reporter.

According to the Box-Office Mojo, ticket sales of the film already hit $440,147,539 on the strength of the worldwide receipts of $350,400,000.

That's well over the budget of $150 million for the film and should warrant a sequel.

However, at this point, Paramount Pictures is still on the fence of making a follow-up film starring Emilia Clarke. It was previously reported that the studio is thinking about a sequel to "Terminator Genisys," but without the "Game of Thrones" star.

Dish Nation alleged that the English actress "failed to impress" the executives with her turn in "Terminator Genysis."

The source claimed, "Sadly her acting ability has been called into question and has in part been blamed for the film's flop."

"Of course it's not all her fault," the insider added. "But they basically don't want her back. They're saying she doesn't have the star power they thought she did."

For her part, Emilia Clarke enjoyed her time playing Sarah Connors and also acting alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger so it's likely that she would join the "Terminator Genisys" sequel.

But when J.K. Simmons was asked by Screen Rant on whether or not there's going to be a follow-up film, he replied, "Nothing yet, we are hopeful that we're going to make a couple more, but the trigger has not been officially pulled."
