K-Pop Crossover: CL Performs Her First American Solo Stage Set At Berkeley's Mad Decent Block Party [VIDEO]

While fans are still waiting for her official American debut, 2NE1 frontwoman Lee "CL" Chaerin has made another landmark with her recent Mad Decent Block Party appearance in Berkeley, San Francisco.

On Friday, CL conducted her first American radio interview with 99.7 NOW's Christian Saad. During the interview, she previewed a special occurrence for the Mad Decent Block Party later that night.

"I'm usually with [Diplo on stage], but tonight is going to be very special," said the 24-year-old rapper. "It's my own stage for 20 to 30 minutes. For the last couple of shows, it was just me jumping on a Jack Ü or Major Lazer set."

True to her word, CL not only performed her collaboration tracks like Skrillex's "Dirty Vibe" or Diplo's "Doctor Pepper," but also showcased her K-pop roots. The remainder of her solo set included 2NE1 hits like "Falling in Love" and "Come Back Home," as well as her solo songs "MTBD" and "The Baddest Female."

"K-pop is a weird term because K-pop has everything-rap records, it's very pop-sounding, there are really boy-band sounding records," said the 36-year-old DJ-producer to Time magazine.

"It's going to be [labeled] K-pop because she's doing it, so it's going to be coming from another place and there's going to be Korean lyrics. But for the most part it's eclectic. She's very rap-leaning, she's very fashion forward. She's like the Nicki Minaj of that world."

Despite her solo venture, CL affirmed that 2NE1 is simply taking a hiatus to focus on individual activities.

"We just finished our tour last year and we always have the longest break," she explained.

"I know our fans hate us, but before our last album we had a two-year gap. We just want to come out when it's perfectly ready. They're doing their own stuff too. Minzy always wanted to go back to school and Dara wanted to be an actress. I think it's time for us to do that because we've never gotten to [do so]."
