Shaquille O'Neal And League Executives Weigh In On LA Lakers Current Roster

The LA Lakers have been on the bottom of the Western Conference team standings for the past few seasons and it looks like it will take some time before they get to competitive form again according to some league executives.

For them, a significant change should be done in the LA Lakers roster for them to be relevant again. That would mean one big acquisition.

"They're one big deal from being in good position again," one executive said via ESPN. "That's what it takes. And that's what they've been able to do in their history and I wouldn't count them out from being able to pull it off again."

That notion is seconded by another executive and they were even compared to the New York Knicks, who have been struggling for the past few years as well.

"The Lakers are still the Lakers no matter what," another executive said, "but the Knicks have been saying that forever, too."

Another agent also sees them as the NY Knicks of the Western Conference: "Championship organizations start from the very top. I think the Lakers are hopeless, to be honest. I think they're the West Coast Knicks."

Lastly, LA Lakers legendary center Shaquille O'Neal also weighed in on his former team's current roster and he believes that the team needs a complete re-tooling.

"When you mean 'turn it around,' do you mean a championship? Because that's done," O'Neal said. "That's not happening unless they make a miraculous trade and get four new people."

"Who do they have on the Lakers? I'm not sure. I'm not joking. Do they even have anyone to trade that somebody would want?"
