'Fantastic Four' Reception: Simon Kinberg Wants To 'Make More Movies' With Cast And Josh Trank

"Fantastic Four" co-writer and producer Simon Kinberg on the reception of the film, what went wrong and the possibility of working with Josh Trank in the future.

The 42-year-old writer offered The Hollywood Reporter his take on the reception "Fantastic Four" received from critics.

"I haven't really done a full diagnosis," Kinberg said. "It was a hard movie to make, but I've made a lot of hard movies. I do think that there is a great Fantastic Four movie with that cast. But there's so many different elements that need to come together perfectly. It's like a collaboration between all these strangers. And if there's a few things that don't go right, it's hard to recover from."

He also offered his thoughts on director Josh Trank's very public claim about his version of the movie being better than the one Fox release and whether that may have afffected box office ratings.

"I've had other movies not work before," Kinberg quipped. "For whatever reason, that movie not working became very public - and that was hard because you put a lot of time and effort and love into everything you do, and I really love a lot of people on that film and felt really close to the actors."

"Those are the guys whose faces are on the poster and are the most exposed. I hope we get to make more movies with them. But it was disappointing."

When asked if he's williing to work with Trank again, Kinberg responded, "In the right context? Sure."

Since the movie released in theaters, the movie has suffered negative reviews and disappointing numbers at the box office. As it stands, it is the worst-reviewed Marvel-based film and has been given a 9% rating by Rotten Tomatoes.

"Fantastic Four" stars Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, Creed) as Johnny Storm, Jamie Bell (Snowpiercer) as Ben Grimm, Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Franklin Storm and Toby Kebbell (World of Warcraft) as Doom.
