Naughty Dog Eyeing A ‘The Last Of Us 2’ Release Date In 2017? Major Character Killed?

Naughty Dog announced that they would be working on a "The Last Of Us 2" follow up and that release date of the game could happen in the next few years as the company is still busy finishing "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End."

Confirmation about the progress of the game has been reported by Game Rant and reports started when voice actor in the game Nolan North confirmed that the studio is indeed working on the second installation of the much-anticipated post-apocalyptic game series.

"I know they're doing a 'Last of Us 2,'" North said after appearing in a recently held MetroCon panel, although not announcing any news about a potential release date of the game.

Meanwhile, a report from Movie Pilot might potentially have ruined the hopes for some of the gamers, as main character Joel is speculated and rumored to be booted out and killed from the game.

According to the source, this would allow Ellie to roam around and explore the rest of the world and continue with the story by herself.

"If the sequel features the same characters and the same setting, most of us, if not all, don't want Joel to return," the report stated.

"Imagine an emotional scene where Joel dies in Ellie's arms, trying to save her from the Infected, maybe trying to kill a stage 5 Infected which got removed from the first game. After that, Ellie is all on her own, fighting for her survival. The game could feature many emotional scenes of Ellie remembering Joel."

Release date of "The Last Of Us 2" may still be in question as Naughty Dog Studios is said to be fully focused on the release of "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," which is expected to come out in March of next year.

The game is expected to come out exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
