The Jerry Garcia Foundation Partners With 1% For The Planet; Late Grateful Dead Guitarist's Family Wants To Keep The World Alive

The Grateful Dead always believed in the community of earth and the family of the late guitarist Jerry Garcia is trying to keep the planet alive.

"The Jerry Garcia Foundation is very honored to become a member of the 1% for the Planet Network. We look forward to engaging the arts in continued support for conservation practices meaningful to Jerry, including the preservation of our ocean's coral reefs," Manasha Garcia, President of the Jerry Garcia Foundation, said in a statement.

The Jerry Garcia Foundation supports artistic, environmental and humanitarian causes. The foundation is a new nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet, an alliance of over 1,200 member companies in 41 countries that give one percent of revenues to environmental causes.

1% for the Planet is a global network of businesses that donate one percent of annual sales directly to approved environmental nonprofit organizations.

"1% for the Planet member businesses donate at least 1% of their annual sales to support environmental nonprofits," Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet, said.

"We believe deeply that these nonprofits play a critical role in solving the many challenges facing our planet, and our core work is to grow the corporate support that enables these nonprofits to accomplish even more."

More than 1000 member companies in 40 countries give back to the environment through more than 4000 nonprofit partners.

Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, former owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet helps people buy better products and protect the planet we play on. To date, our network has given more than $130 million back to the planet

The Jerry Garcia Foundation is now eligible to receive donations from 1% for the Planet member companies, placing them among a diverse, global network of environmental organizations. 1% member businesses fuel this nonprofit network through their annual contributions. Partnership with 1% greatly expands the potential pool of funding to which The Jerry Garcia Foundation can look to for support.

Newly approved, The Jerry Garcia Foundation contributes to a healthier planet by working with musicians and artists to raise awareness and support for environmental causes.

Over 3,800 nonprofits worldwide are included in the 1% for the Planet network, and over $130 million has been funneled to its nonprofit partners to date.

The Jerry Garcia Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, serves to support meaningful causes through the beauty of art and music. The Foundation was established in 2015 as an expression of gratitude, by family members, Manasha and Keelin Garcia, in honor of musician, artist, and visionary, Jerry Garcia.
