Review: Delight Fires Ferocious Opening Shot With Debut Video: "Mega Yak" Mixes Reggaton, R&B, Dubstep Beats With Ease [VIDEO]

All-girl K-pop quartet Delight burst onto the M! Countdown earlier this month, with the music video for the song "Mega Yak."

Both the video and the song that spawned it are a powerful opening statement from a band whose time appears to have come.

Delight released two other songs as a "mini-album" for label Broad Media Entertainment along with the "Mega Yak" song and video on April 1, including the hip-hop powerhouse "Delight Time."

The K-pop group, which includes bandmates Eun Sae, Yeon Du, Tae Hee and Kelly is clearly shooting for the dubstep crowd, yet creating an interesting and diverse take on the genre that might even make Skrillex give K-pop a serious second look.

"Mega Yak," which also features P.O. from K-Pop group Block B., runs through a dizzying array of breaks and genres, dropping references to reggaton, hip hop and R&B nastiness with relative ease.

But the band's real strength comes though when they are at their most raw.

With the shouted out hook of "Mega Yak," about spanking their men, the girls are on the verge of crossing into a bratty, almost punkish area where K-pop rarely goes, but should.

The song's attitude has the snarl of Karen O from indie rock band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, even the bombast of New Orleans sissy bounce artist Sissy Nobby.

The video as well keeps hinting at a psychedelic territory that is an interesting direction for the genre as the girls of Delight drive around in a futuristic raved-out limo.

And although the girls of Delight can run through the dance routines expected of a K-pop girl group they have an in-your-face attitude that is refreshing and comes across as sincere.

It is too soon to tell if the band will accentuate these more original areas or fall into the commercial homogenization that happens to so many artists across all musical genres, particularly in the pop realm.

Yet the future looks bright for Delight.

The song "Delight Time," the hook of which is featured briefly at the beginning of the "Mega Yak" video is an even better song, bringing a mixture of Lil Wayne-infused Southern Hip hop with an old-timey jazz vocal inflection that would make Lady Gaga jealous.

It would be a big mistake for "Delight Time" to not be released as the band's next music video.

It has enough attitude and swagger to make it an international crossover hit.

Either way, this is unlikely to be the last you hear from Delight.
