Lindsey Graham Says Drones Would Have "Sure Been Nice" In Boston; America Is "A Battlefield Because The Terrorists Think It Is"

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was interviewed recently by the Washington Post and said that in order to track the suspects of the Boston bombing, "It sure would be nice to have a drone up there." Privacy and anti-drone groups are in an uproar over the comment.

Senator Lindsay Graham also commented to the Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin, with regards to the United States, "It's a battlefield because the terrorists think it is" He also said about the suspects of the Boston bombing, Tamerlin and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, "They were radicalized somewhere, somehow... this is Exhibit A of why the homeland is the battlefield."

Authorities are saying that the brothers, who are from Chechnya, have been in the US for about five years.

Graham also wants the Boston bombing suspect still at large, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, to be interrogated and held as an enemy combatant without any rights. This afternoon, the Senator said on Twitter, "If captured, I hope Administration will at least consider holding the Boston suspect as enemy combatant for intelligence gathering purposes." Another Tweet read, "The last thing we may want to do is read Boston suspect Miranda Rights telling him to 'remain silent.'"

A piece in the Atlantic by David A. Graham (no relation) objected to the comments, caling them "breathtaking" and pointing out that Senator Graham "is suggesting that an American citizen, captured on American soil, should be deprived of basic Constitutional rights."

Senator Graham, a member of the infamous Gang of Eight regarding immigration, has come under fire recently for votes on gun legislation this week, voting against the bill requiring more extensive background checks. Obama said of the vote,  "It was a pretty shameful day for Washington" and that those who voted against the bill "caved" to the NRA. Graham voted against an amendments banning assult weapons and limiting magazine sizes; he voted in support of conceal-carry legislation.

Senator Graham's approval rating in his home state of South Carolina has tanked, falling by about 13% in the last two months.
