'Captain America: Civil War' Trailer Breaks Record; 61 Million Views In Its First 24 Hours

"Captain America: Civil War" trailer sets a new record for the most watched Marvel movie trailer.

According to Screen Rant, Marvel announced that the trailer had "debuted online to a record shattering 61M  global views in its first 24 hours!"

"This debut trailer for 'Captain America: Civil Waralmost doubled the previous record, held by the first trailer for Marvel's 'Age of Ultron' - which debuted to a then record-breaking 34 million views in 2014."

"Captain America: Civil War's" trailer released last week and gave fans their first look at the Earth's Mightiest going head-to-head against each other. Black Panther, who comes out with his own solo film in 2018 debuted in the trailer. Spider-Man, who joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, was absent in the footage.

For those unaware, the plot picks up after the events of "Age of Ultron." To control superhuman activity on Earth, the U.S. government passes a law that requires all superheroes to subject themselves to federally mandated standards. Iron Man, already publicly known as Tony Stark is in favor of the act, while Captain America believes that the law violates civil rights.

"After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team," reads the movie's official synopsis published by Slash Film. "The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain."

The film stars Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Emily VanCamp as Agent Sharon Carter, Paul Bettany as Vision, Frank Grillo as Crossbones and William Hurt as General "Thunderbolt" Ross.

With the "Captain America: Civil War's" trailer out, the movie bows on May 6, 2016.
