Pacific Rim 2′ Movie Release Date Pushed Back Again Or Not? 'Game Of Thrones' Star Maisie Williams Joining Pacific Rim: Maelstrom? Is Pacific Rim Delayed By 3D?

Pacific Rim 2 Release Date News: Universal Pictures moved back the release date for"Pacific Rim 2"  also known as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom."

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom was scheduled to start filming in Toronto in November but changed, as the date for production has now been pushed all the way back into 2016.

According to Variety, the "Pacific Rim 2″ release date was already pushed from April 2, 2017, to August 4, 2017. Guillermo del Toro will return to direct the sequel. Latino Review reported that industry sources told them that 'Pacific Rim'  is being postponed.

However, according to a report from Crossmap,  the second installment of the 2013 movie "Pacific Rim",will definitely go through.

According to Cinema Blend, 18-year-old "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams might be joining the Movie. AV Club reported that Williams already met with  del Toro to discuss the details.

"The characters I love will return," del Toro said last June. "Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau - but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we're ready to have a blast."

Guillermo del Toro has said that the film will follow Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako (Rinko Kikuchi), from the original 2013 action adventure film. Pacific Rim 2 will arrive in 3D which may explain the delay.

Del Toro said "Pacific Rim 2" will explore facets of the story that weren't explained in the first movie.

"It was hard to create a world that did not come from a comic book," del Toro told Buzzfeed. "That had its own mythology, so we had to sacrifice many aspects to be able to cram everything in the first movie. Namely, for example 'the Drift,' this was an interesting concept. [Then there was] this portal that ripped a hole into the fabric of our universe, what were the tools they were using? And we came up with a really, really interesting idea. I don't want to spoil it, but I think at the end of the second movie, people will find out that the two movies stand on their own.

"They're very different from each other, although hopefully bringing the same joyful giant spectacle. But the tenor of the two movies will be quite different."

New reports say Charlie Hunnam, who played Raleigh, will not return for "Pacific Rim 2."
