EXID Only K-Pop Girl Group To Be Included Among Top 10 Most Streamed Songs Of 2015

The South Korean public's preference towards idol groups has changed significantly over the past five years.

Korean news outlet Hanguk Ilbo compiled Gaon streaming data from six different Korean music streaming sites to determine which songs were most popular in the country in 2015. The rankings use data that was generated from Dec. 28, 2014 to Dec. 19, 2015.

Nine of the ten spots on the list were taken up by soloists and boy bands. The only girl group to make it on the list was EXID, with their Aug. 2014 song "Up & Down."

Although "Up & Down" was released in August 2014, it didn't enjoy widespread populrity until October of that year, when a fancam of member Hani performing live went viral. The popularity of the track lasted well into 2015, as evidenced by the song's No. 8 ranking on the chart, with over 66.5 million total streams.

In 2010, five girl groups were included in the top 10 most streamed song list: miss A, Girls' Generation, T-ara, Kara, and Wonder Girls. In 2013, this number was reduced to only three: A Pink, SISTAR, and 4Minute. 2015 has seen girl groups nearly eliminated from the streaming chart.

The only other female on the list was Baek Ah Yeon at No. 2, with 72.57 million streams of her single "Shouldn't Have."

The other positions on the chart were taken up by Big Bang, Zion. T, Hyukoh, and Naul.
