Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Rumors And News Updates: Nina Dobrev might wake up from that eternal slumber on Vampire Diaries, if the showrunner has any say in it. Amid reports that  Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are once again on speaking terms, fans are hoping that the Vampire Diaries stars might rekindle their onscreen fire as well.

Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec told Variety that she would welcome Nina Dobrev back for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

"Yes, I miss her deeply and would take her back in an instant if she called and said, 'Hey, can I come back and play?'" Plec told the trade.

"It just feels good to be able to tell the story about two brothers who are more bonded," Plec said, "and it's just been so fun to write this year. The writers, we're just enjoying the hell out of it."

Nina Dobrev told Entertainment Weekly a few months backs that she's not interested.

"That chapter is closed, sadly - bittersweet," Dobrev told EW.

Ratings for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 dropped since Damon and Elena were separated by the long sleep. Fans have been waiting for Nina Dobrev to make a comeback.

The "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 cast agreed with the fans.

"Elena's still a very big part of the story," Paul Wesley, who plays the character of Stefan, told TV Insider. "Her body's in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up."

"The Vampire Diaries" ratings dropped a 33% since Elena was sidelined. Episode 17, "Mommie Dearest," reportedly got the lowest ratings the series at 1.10 million.

Nina Dobrev considers TVD to be like "high school." Bulgarian-Canadian actress graduated and wants to move to the next phase of her career.

"I made the difficult decision last season to leave," Dobrev recently told Interview Magazine.
