Moon Explosion Visible From Earth: A Split-Second That Could Have Been Seen On This Planet

A moon explosion visible from earth took place recently, according to NASA.

The moon explosion visible from earth lasted only a second, so if somebody had a telescope for just the right moment, they saw something they might never again. This moon explosion visible from earth caused NASA to go wild in excitement.

"It exploded in a flash nearly 10 times as bright as anything we've ever seen before," Bill Cooke, of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office told CNN. "We'll be keeping an eye out for signs of a repeat performance next year when the Earth-moon system passes through the same region of space."

It appeared to be history for that split-second that was right before their eyes.

"It jumped right out at me, it was so bright," Ron Suggs of the Marshall Space Flight Center told CNN.

NASA said it wasn't what people would know as an explosion because the flash of light doesn't come from any type of combustion.  The explosion happened because of the glowing molten rock at the impact site.

Cooke said Earth was pelted by meteoroids at about the same time, but they hit the moon because it has no atmosphere to protect it.
