AKMU's Lee Chan Hyuk Reveals TWICE Gave Him Strength While He was Serving the Country

Not long after his release from the mandatory military service, Akdong Musician's Lee Chan Hyuk graced the SBS show "Night of Real Entertainment" to talk about his life while serving the country.

Chan Hyuk enlisted in September of 2017 and served the 1st Marine Division in Pohang until he was discharged on May 29, 2019.

"I honestly thought that I would be really happy, but it feels bittersweet. I think a large part of me feels upset about leaving a place that was my home for a year and nine months," the AKMU member said.

The singer-musician added that, probably due to excitement, he could not easily fall into slumber.

"I couldn't sleep last night because I was nervous with only a day left until my military discharge," Chan Hyuk said.

In the variety show, Chan Hyun disclosed that the "Nation's Girl Group" inspired him to endure the military life.

"I gained strength by dancing to TWICE," he said, making everyone laugh.

Also, Chan Hyun's victory song was selected to officially represent the Marine Corps. He shared, "Since I came to the Marine Corps, I wanted to leave my name and dedicated a military song."

The singer-musician concluded his statements with the long-awaited promise to his fans.

"I'll see you as Akdong Musician from here on out, so please look forward to it," he said.

Chan Hyuk's labelmate Lee Hi, who has recently released her collaboration track with iKON's B.I. "NO ONE," shared her sentiments regarding his recent discharge.

"His time in the military felt very short. It somehow feels like he got discharged quickly. It really feels like it hasn't been that long since he enlisted," she said in an interview.

"When I met him when he was on leave, I asked him, 'When are you going to be discharged?' He told me, 'In a few months.' It feels like a long time has passed since then, but he's already out," she added.

The YG singer narrated what went on when she met the AKMU member for the first time after he was released.

"I wanted to congratulate him, but he got sleepy really early. It was 10 p.m., but I think it's because he would have been sleeping at that time [based on his lifestyle in the military]," Lee Hi said.

Lee Chan Hyuk, together with JYP singer Jeon Somi, will be appearing in the comedy variety show "Ask Us Anything" on June 8, 2019.
