Far East Movement “Turns Up The Love” at Macy’s In Tribute of Asian American Heritage [EXCLUSIVE]

The three front guys of Far East Movement, Kev Nish, Prohgress and J-Splif enthusiastically hopped and bounced from one end of the stage to another, while the fourth member and dedicated DJ, DJ Virman spun the records and laid out beats for an epic celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, on the fourth floor of Macy's flagship store in the heart of New York City. Away from a microphone, the usually restrained Kev Nish who's not known for hyperbole, had by now transformed into a fast talking MC with his grip of not one, but two microphones. And, he subsequently declares with relish "this Macy's is about to be turned into a club, y'all".

Pulling double duty seems to be emblematic for the hardworking group, because Kev must have taken his cue to double up on the mics from his other group members. Throughout the intimate and energetic performance, Prohgress would double up on his guitar-shaped keyboard, while J-Splif was also doubling up on the synthesizer. Intermittently, each would break away with a mic to spit a rap or two for the excited crowd.

Before the show Kpopstarz.com caught up with the group, thanks to the Macy's media team, and asked them to describe their infectious sound and brassy style. Kev Nish, the primary spokesman for the group compared it to a marsh-up and smash of cultures. To which Progress adds "smorgasbord", and J-Splif not to be out shown threw in some "fondue" to complete the definitive description of the thick and frothy texture of their sound.

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Far East Movement in collaboration with Macy's, through their music has been spreading a message of hard work, dedication, and persistence. Beginning on May 9th, 2013 in Washington D.C., then on to San Francisco, passing through Houston, Costa Mesa in California, New York City, and with a finale on May 30th in Chicago.

The celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, like the celebration of other cultures and heritage that make up these United States, is an affirmation that the American Dream belongs to any and all who are willing to work hard and excel in their chosen endeavor. The selection of Far East Movement by the popular department store, which has a legacy of its own that is woven into the fabric of modern America, to carry this message across the nation from "sea to shinning sea", was appropriate and fitting.

Far East Movement, through their unique music and delightful style exemplify the American Dream and the concept of "reaching for the stars". The story of four young men who grew up in working class neighborhoods of Los Angeles to become the first Asian-American group to attain the apex of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and then later be selected to perform at President Obama's 2012 inaugural celebrations is a testament to that American ethos of "never giving up" and "resilience".

During their performance in the heart of Macy's iconic store at Herald Square in New York City, Far East Movement performed a string of hits including their new single "Turn Up the Love", their chart-topping "Like a G6", as well as the very first song that got them their record deal within Interscope Records. In between sets, the guys talked about how staying positive and being persistent helped them achieve their dreams. Thematically, this was the perfect segue into their inspirational hit, "Rocketeer".

In wrapping up the inspirational, upbeat and lively performance, Kev Nish reminded the crowd to strive and reach for their dreams and maintain a positive attitude against all odds.
