Big Mama is a legendary girl group that debuted in 2003 under M-Boat Entertainment. The mentioned agency is a sub-label of YG Entertainment, and the two music companies combined their synergy to produce a unique girl group.

Contrary to the usual idols known to have three areas such as dance, singing, and rap, Big Mama challenged the K-pop industry with their vocals solely.

The concept of the project girl group is to showcase their music abilities and potential, rather than focusing on visuals. Due to this, they are named "Big Mama," referencing to themselves as the "Big Women" among other idols who comply with Korea's beauty standards.

Thus, they also debuted under the condition that no member should be allowed to have plastic surgeries.

Despite their unconventional concept, with their appealing voices, overwhelming singing, and perfect harmony, they became popular.

Prior to their disbandment, Big Mama was eventually considered as one of Korea's representatives in terms of vocals. Big Mama has numerous hit songs, including "Resignation," "Betrayal" "Refusal, Rejection" "Woman" and "Hello," which have been loved so far.

Though they enjoy domestic success, they, unfortunately, parted ways with M-Boat and YG Entertainment in 2007. According to speculations, their visuals and mismanagement became some of the roadblocks why they did not renew their contract with the agency.

They later on transferred to Manwalldang, only to have a three-year hiatus until they jumped to a new nest, Tailruns Media. Things were good for a while.

However, in 2012, they announced their official disbandment with a final release, "Cleaning my Closet."

After nine years away from the limelight, expectations are high on the music and harmony Big Mama will release for fans after nine years. Big Mama's new song will be released on various online music sites at 6 p.m. on June 24 KST.
