Square Enix E3 Update: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Absent, New Title For PS4, Xbox One

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) just a week away, Square Enix has revealed its official booth lineup for the event.

The "Final Fantasy" franchise has reportedly struggled in recent years with Final Fantasy XIV MMO receiving overwhelming negative reviews and forcing the company to issue at least two apologies to its customers.

And things seem to be on the rocks again, with the long-awaited Final Fantasy Versus XIII glaringly missing from the E3 lineup.

Check out the Versus XIII trailer that was released in 2011:

Recently, Amazon stopped listing the product as being sold by the company directly, suggesting that the game is either canceled, or it simply no longer exists in under that title.

According to VG24/7, some still speculate that Versus XIII could still make an appearance at E3, but possibly as Final Fantasy XV or another title.

Officially, however, the E3 line-up only lists the following games: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (PS3), Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (PC, PS3), Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360), Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS Vita, PS3), Deux Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut (Wii U), Thief (PC, PS4, Xbox One).

Square Enix has previously made surprise announcements during E3, so fans of Final Fantasy will have to wait to see if anything develops.

A title not related to Final Fantasy is Thief, a game being developed by Square Enix for next gen consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, reports Examiner.

Check out a trailer that was leaked in April:

While not much is currently known about the game, E3 should illuminate more details on Thief as well as the other titles listed.

E3 is set for June 11 to June 13. Check back for more updates.
