On Wednesday in Seoul, Korea, Yoo Ye-bin, a 21-year-old college student, took home the crown for Miss Korea after beating 54 contestants.

Her next task is to represent South Korea at this year's Miss Universe beauty pageant.

According to Daily Mail, early this year the 20 finalists were the center of attention when a Reddit user posted images of them that made people wonder if the majority had gone under the knife. The speculation ignited criticism of the Asian nation's rise of plastic surgery.

When it comes to plastic surgery, South Korea is said to top all other countries. The trend is popular among those in the 19 to 49-year-old age range. Those who undergo the tranformation have been accused of mimmicking a 'western' look, due to the addiction to celebrity culture.

The similarities among the pagaent girls made Reddit user Shen TheWise post the pictures and add the caption 'Korea's plastic surgery mayhem is finally converging on the same face.' The post attracted over 3,000 comments that debated the growth of plastic surgery.

To summarize some of the comments, people do think Korean women can look very diverse. However, when most of them insist on getting the same surgery, it can be diffcult to tell them apart.

Reddit user HotBrownie said that surgery takes away uniqueness, but the Korean women who do it do realize that because they are so brainwashed into thinking the westernization of their features is superior, which explains why eye surgery is so common in the country.

The observation was also made that western women want to exaggerate their features (fuller lips, bigger boobs, bigger butts) while Asian women what minimize their features when going under the knife.

Last year's Miss Korea winner Kim Tu-Mi received a lot of scrutiny when pictures of her before she had plastic surgery surfaced. Critics claimed that it was an unfair advantage.

In response to the backlash, the former Miss Korea said, "I never said I was born beautiful."
