Joe Francis, the loathsome and smarmy man behind the "Girls Gone Wild" franchise, is threatening to sue the purveyor of the sex tape he shot with his 25-year-old girlfriend, Abbey Wilson.

The 40-year-old Botox-laden Francis is dating the winner of the 2013 Girls Gone Wild "Search For the Hottest Girl In America" contest last year, Abbey Wilson.

Because of course Joe Francis dates the winner of his Girls Gone Wilde contest.

The sex tape in question, according to report by TMZ, was shot only a couple weeks ago on Wilson's iPad.

Wilson had her iPad stolen recently while at Los Angeles International Airport.

Francis threatened to sue anyone that tried to release the sex tape and said he has nothing to do with its distribution.

For a guy whose living is derived from selling videos of women taking their clothes off, it's hard not to think his sex tape is a publicity stunt.

The sex tape has been shopped around to various media outlets with no takers so far.

Francis' lawyer spoke with TMZ about the sex tape:

"It is not only unfortunate, but it is a crime. As such, this office will take all necessary steps to determine who in fact has done this and who is attempting to distribute the video."

Francis' lawyer also issued a warning to the person who stole Francis' sex tape and is looking to cash in. "When we catch you, we will see that you are prosecuted to the fullest extent of both the criminal and civil laws," he said.

The irony is derived from the way Francis makes a living selling videos of women baring their breasts and more during Spring Break and other college events.

Francis was convicted last month of 3 counts of false imprisonment and 1 count of assault after a debacherous night out in Hollywood back in 2011.

He will be sentenced in July and could face up to 5 years in prison.

That's not the only legal action Joe Francis has faced:

His company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection earlier in the year despite Francis' assets including a 1971 Gulfstream jet worth about $2 million, a $10 million home in Bel Air, California, and a $30 million mansion in Punta Mita, Mexico.

Also, last year Steve Wynn won a $20 million lawsuit against Francis for slander and Tamara Favazza won a $5.77 million judgement after Girls Gone Wild used video of her breasts in 2004 without her permission.

Hopefully Joe Francis is embarrassed and humiliated by the sex tape, so he can get is his comeuppance.
