Reason IVE Wonyoung Receives Criticism as Idol Despite Nickname 'Nation's Center'
Jang Wonyoung's emergence in the music industry was spectacular. In 2018, the idol first created her name through survival show Mnet's "Produce 48."
Due to her beauty and height that doesn't look like it belongs to a 15-year-old girl, she received the modifier "ten-thousand-year idol" (a star who is rare to find). When the audition ended, Wonyoung secured her position in the first place, and proudly took the role of "Nation's Center."

While IZ*ONE Wonyoung enjoyed great success, she fell into a dilemma when the group disbanded as K-pop fans started to show more interest in her singing skills on top of her stage presence and dance skills for her re-debut under Starship's new girl group IVE.
Although there were high expectations on her when IVE finally debuted on December 1 last year, public criticism began to emerge one by one. While she attracts attention with her outstanding appearance, she is criticized for her seemingly lack of singing ability.

On various streaming platforms, Wonyoung MR removed videos gained attention. People who saw her clips expressed frustrations and said:
"I'm personally disappointed with MR removed videos of IVE (Wonyoung)."
"I think they have to do their best on every stage as they were a rookie."
"Looking closely, what attracted viewers is not Wonyoung singing and dancing skills but her facial expression and visuals."
From controversy on her vocals, Wonyoung also faced stage attitude issues for poorly dancing.
In December last year, the idol was allegedly so conscious of what she was showing on camera that she did not perform the headbanging dance choreo properly.
Korean netizens pointed out:
"It was an unprofessional behavior, which reduced the perfection of the stage due to her appearance."
In this regard, FTISLAND's main vocalist Lee Hong Ki's remark to of Jang Wonyoung when he was a mentor for "Produce 48" is drawing attention again.
Lee Hong Ki emphasized:
"It's really good that Wonyoung knows how to show attractiveness, but if you don't showcase vocal skills perfectly, it seems like you're just playing around."
In response, people doubted if Wonyoung is actually "born-to-be center" due to her idol skills, or she's more like a "celebrity" for her stunning visuals.
In defense, fans and Korean outlets highlighted that Wonyoung is not only a beauty but actually excels in various skills such as hosting.
In her career's fourth year, the idol is also showing significant improvements at a young age, flaunting her high potential.
