Gaon Music Awards Hopes to Have BIGBANG Attend Year-End Ceremony
Recently on May 20, secretary-general of Korea Music Copyright Association (KMCA) Steve Choi, who is known for operating Gaon Chart and is a director for the Gaon Music Awards, released the final part of his three-part 45-minute video special on legendary K-Pop group BIGBANG.
In his videos, he talked about BIGBANG and their position in the K-Pop industry, their impact and achievements, how different they are from other idols, his regrets about the group, and more.
In particular, he talks about how BIGBANG has become an iconic artist in South Korea, and that the country was fortunate enough to have a group like BIGBANG.
"[BIGBANG] are such iconic artists. I still have this memory from the rehearsal for the 2015 [Gaon Music] awards. You know how it is customary for staff and stage hands to go about their jobs while the artists are rehearsing. I didn't realize it at that time, but BIGBANG appeared on stage to rehearse, and I remember everyone stopped what they were doing and faced the stage," Steve Choi said.

He continued, "[BIGBANG] wasn't even doing their dance routines yet, they were just outlining their movements on stage, but every person was looking at them in awestruck. Truth be told, Korea was fortunate to have had a group capable of performing such great songs with mastery."
Steve Choi also expresses his hopes for BIGBANG to once again make an appearance and perform at the Gaon Music Awards.
"While I was listening to 'Still Life', I want to think about it in a meaningful way from when BIGBANG release the 'MADE' albums. If they come back to the awards ceremony, we would really like to greet [BIGBANG] with big hearts," he said.
He continued, "I really want to see all the members on stage together. With that in mind, I made this [video]. I would really appreciate it if [BIGBANG] could come to our awards ceremony. I promise to work hard."
Steve Choi adds more to his promise, stating that if BIGBANG does make an attendance, they will do their very best to put together the Gaon Music Awards' greatest stage.
Can BIGBANG Be Ever Replaced?
When asked if BIGBANG can ever be replaced by a new group, Steve Choi states that there are many great idols these days, but it's the unique characteristics of BIGBANG that made them who they are.
"From a musical point of view, I wonder if such a cool group can ever be replaced. There are may great idols, of course. But I think it is the unique characteristics of BIGBANG, and [their] feeling and uniqueness," Steve Choi said.

He then mentioned some of BIGBANG leader G-Dragon's achievements that made him an icon, such as the release of his solo album "Heartbreaker," which took over real-time charts by filling every post on the chart with all of the song from the album.
"It turned [G-Dragon into an iconic figure in K-Pop history. [G-Dragon] wasn't simply the leader of some idol group anymore. He had become something on another level. If you were asked to name K-Pop icons, it is a given that [G-Dragon] would first come to mind," he concluded.
