YG Entertainment Updates on BLACKPINK's Comeback, World Tour This 2022

YG Entertainment has provided more details regarding BLACKPINK's comeback this year. The company also teased the girl group's new world tour. Keep on reading to know more.

According to a press release from YG Entertainment on July 6, BLACKPINK will make their long-awaited comeback in August with a new album. The agency revealed that the members - Jisoo, Rosé, Lisa, and Jennie - are in the "final stages of recording a new album" and will start filming the music video for their new song this month.

The company also said that the quartet's new music in August will mark the start of "a continuous large-scale project which will extend through the second half of the year."

And aside from releasing a new album, the group is also set to embark on an international tour by the end of the year. YG Entertainment described BLACKPINK's world tour as the "largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group."

"A lot of BLACKPINK-esque music has been prepared over a long period," the label shared. "On top of new music and large-scale projects, BLACKPINK will also go on the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group by the end of the year to expand their rapport with fans worldwide."

This will mark the band's first project with all four members in one year and 10 months. The last full-group release was in October 2020 with the quartet's first studio album simply titled "THE ALBUM," which features the hit songs "Lovesick Girls," "How You Like That," and "Ice Cream (with Selena Gomez)."

BLACKPINK's "THE ALBUM" became the first million-selling album by a K-pop girl group in history, surpassing 1.2 million copies as of Oct. 26. This figure includes domestic sales of around 871,355 copies and the 319,300 copies sold in the United States and Europe. The 18,888 copies of the limited edition vinyl LP version were sold out almost as soon as they arrived.

"THE ALBUM" was a huge success in the global market, debuting at No. 2 on Billboard 200 and spent two weeks atop the Top Album Sales chart. Moreover, the band charted seven songs on Billboard Hot 100, including the top 20 hit "Ice Cream" (with Selena Gomez) and two top 40 entries "Sour Candy" with Lady Gaga and "How You Like That."

In 2021, solo albums by members Rosé and Lisa were as successful as the group's first full-length album.

In other news, the quartet made history on YouTube in terms of the number of subscribers.

On June 28, BLACKPINK became the first musical act to ever hit 75 million subscribers on YouTube, the video platform confirmed to Billboard.

The South Korean group earned the title of the most-subscribed artist on the platform in September 2021, when they reached the 65.5 million mark, taking over the lead from Justin Bieber.

To date, Canadian superstar Bieber remains in second place, with 69.3 million subscribers. BTS comes in third with 68.7 million followers. Completing the top five are Marshmallow with 55.4 million, and Eminem with 52.4 million.
