Their group name contains the meaning of the desire to become a timeless icon like denim jeans, which still exists at present and never fades from trends. The name also carries the meaning of "New Genes."

Consisting of five members, the group dropped the music video for the first title song, "Attention," last week without prior notice, and they went on to release two more music videos for the second title track, "Hype Boy," and their B-side "Hurt" in the succeeding days.

On July 28, ADOR announced through a press release that the number of pre-orders for NewJeans' album "NewJeans" had exceeded 440,000. Impressively, the debut EP managed to achieve that figure in only three days.

With this outstanding sum, NewJeans has broken the record for the highest pre-orders by any K-pop girl group debut album. This record previously belonged to aespa's "Savage," which recorded 401,000 pre-orders in October last year.
If these stock pre-orders turn into physical sales, NewJeans will become the fifth rookie girl group that debuted in 2021-2022 to sell more than 300,000 copies with a debut album (following IVE, Kep1er, NMIXX, and LE SSERAFIM).

Additionally, HYBE's new girl group is raising expectations of obtaining the highest first-week sales of any K-pop girl group debut album this year and in history. These two records are currently held by LE SSERAFIM's "FEARLESS," which sold a total of 307,450 copies from May 2 to 8.
NewJeans' first EP is set to drop on Aug. 1, meaning there are still a few days left, so the number of stock pre-orders might continue to increase.

The music video for the third title track by HYBE's new girl group will also be revealed on the same day of the album's online release. The physical version of the EP will hit the shelves a week later, on Aug. 8.
