Who is SEVENTEEN S.Coups?
Choi Seungcheol, more commonly known by his stage name S.Coups, is a South Korean rapper and a member of Pledis Entertainment's top boy group SEVENTEEN. S.Coups made his debut as the leader, rapper, sub-vocalist, and hip-hop team leader of the group back on May 26, 2015, with their debut mini album "17 Carat" and its lead single "Adore You."

Before making their official debut, the SEVENTEEN members were already introduced to the public through their series "SEVENTEEN TV." Prior to their debut, they also appeared on the MBC and Pledis Entertainment reality show "Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan," which shows their journey in preparing for their debut showcase.

1. S.Coups was supposed to debut with NU'EST or TEMPEST.

Before making his debut with SEVENTEEN, S.Coups had been a trainee for over six years. He joined Pledis Entertainment in 2009, and was actually supposed to make his debut several times before officially joining SEVENTEEN. Before SEVENTEEN made their debut, S.Coups was in the running to become a member of either NU'EST or TEMPEST.
2. S.Coups initially had no plans of becoming an idol.

Before S.Coups became a trainee, he actually had no plans of becoming an idol in the past, even when he was discovered by Pledis Entertainment! When he was young, S.Coups originally wanted to become a gym teacher when he grew up. But after skipping soccer practice when he was in eighth grade, he was scouted by a staff member of Pledis Entertainment outside of his school. Although his family was worried it was a scam, a friend had convinced S.Coups to attend the audition, where he passed and joined the company in 2009.

3. The meaning behind S.Coups' stage name.

For his stage name, S.Coups can be broken down into two parts. The "S" of his name stands for both "Seungcheol," which is his real name, as well as his group's name "SEVENTEEN." As for the "Coups," it is taken from the term "coup d'état." The latter is a term used to define a takeover or the sudden advantage over a government, rival, and etc. By putting together the two parts, his stage name would mean he and SEVENTEEN seeing success over their rivals!
