On June 5, a photograph of a man hugging a woman from behind while on the side of the road circulated online. The man is said to be AB6IX Kim Donghyun and the woman is a non-celebrity. This fueled rumors that the K-pop idol was dating.

The picture started to spread following AB6IX's fanmeeting tour "AB_NEW AREA" in Seoul held on the same day. It was allegedly captured in Apgujeong-Dong district of Gangnam, and came from one Twitter user by the handle @lily_is_mine (who seems to have deleted their account as it's no longer found on the app).

According to the Twitter user, they were able to have a good look at the idol at the time they took the image. They said in a tweet:

"Yesterday, while waiting for the cab, I saw him when he took off his cap. As soon as I took the picture, he must have noticed [it] as he walked away while holding the female's hand. My friend and I both had a good look at him. Believe what you want. I will delete the picture and video soon."
On the online community Nate Pann, one netizen posted the photo of AB6IX Donghyun and his alleged girlfriend, together with a photo of the K-pop idol taken when he was leaving the fan meeting. The singer can be seen wearing the same shirt, pants, and bag as the man in the Twitter user's picture.

After the photo went viral, AB6IX's management agency, Brand New Music released a statement to clarify who the woman was with Donghyun that night.
The company explained that the woman, who many believed to be the girl AB6IX Donghyun was dating, is only one of the idol's friends from his hometown. They added that the singer met up with his hometown friends after a company dinner, and that the pictures are from when he was about to go home after their hangout.

Brand New Music further said that the artist took a taxi home after seeing his friends off. They then emphasized that AB6IX Donghyun is not dating the non-celebrity woman, explaining that she was just one of the people he met during the hangout.

While the agency claimed the two are simply old friends, people seemed to believe otherwise after a video of the incident was shared on Twitter. The clip shows Kim Donghyun's hand appearing to caress the girl's midriff.
Netizens criticized Brand New Music for their statement as it only served to confirm that it was indeed the AB6IX member in the picture and video. They also questioned the agency's claim that the woman was just a friend because the video appears to suggest that they are a couple.
