Joel Madden Kicked Out Of Australian Hotel Room After Housekeeper Finds Drugs [Video]

Good Charlotte singer, Joel Madden, was kicked out of his Australian hotel room while still in the country filming the "the Voice Australia" as a coach because a housekeeper found cannabis.

The 34-year-old frontman was staying at The Darling Hotel where he films the family-friendly show, "The Voice Australia," was allegedly asked to leave after the cleaner disovered a small amount of cannabis on Sunday.

No charges have been brought against the star as regards New South Wales law, but he was asked to leave the hotel where he'd been staying for the last two months while he filmed the show.

Only around 5 grams of marijuana were discovered according to the Daily Mail, with the housekeeper alerting hotel staff around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday.

The reports out of Australia say that Madden was present when the police searched the suite hours later, but they failed to press charges as the law recommends only a caution if the offender has less than 15 grams of cannabis.

Despite no charges, Joel Madden was asked to leave the hotel.

A spokesman for the Darling Hotel told the Daily Mail it was company policy to eject anyone with an illegal substance, insisting that Madden wasn't treated differently because of his celebrity.

"He was not afforded any special treatment and he's moved out," confirmed the hotel official.

A spokesman for Channel Nine, which broadcasts The Voice, released a statement:

"Channel Nine has investigated media reports regarding Joel Madden. He has advised us that while police did search his room and found a very small quantity of marijuana no charges are being laid. Police have also confirmed to Nine that no charges will be brought."

Madden has been a staunch--and last year, pubic--supporter of cannabis legalization. He retweeted a post last year that said, "RT if you support Massachusetts' medical marijuana ballot initiative, Question 3, and help the Mass Cannabis Connection"

The husband to Nicole Richie and the father of their two children, Harlow and Sparrow had been staying at the Star Casino Hotel while he films "The Voice," Australia version, which is in its third season.

The program also stars Ricky Martin, Seal and Delta Goodrem as judges of the singing contestants.

Joel sat down for an interview with Tracy Grimshaw of "A Current Affair" about how his rocker look: tattoos, tattered clothes, juxtaposes with his real life responsiblity as a parent and a husband.

While it was just cannabis that was found, that might be hard for some conservative watchers of the Australian "The Voice" to swallow since it is still illegal in Australia and in America, though for how much longer remains in doubt as more states—like Colorado and Washington—legalize the sativa plant bud's for consumption.
