5 K-pop Idols Who Got Hate for Absurd Reasons
Being a K-pop idol is not easy as they are always in the public eye. While numerous idols receive immense support and love from K-pop fans, there are others who are on the receiving end of hate from netizens. With an idol's life constantly under scrutiny, it seems that others will find things to nitpick on.
With that, here are some of the K-pop idols who got hate for absurd reasons.
1. Red Velvet Yeri

When Red Velvet made their debut in 2014, they initially had only four members, with Yeri being added to the lineup later on. Due to this, Yeri was bombarded with hate comments, calling her "ugly" and "talentless," and criticized her for "not being good enough" to be part of the group.
But one of the most absurd reasons she got hate was due to her crying at SHINee Jonghyun's funeral, where netizens' criticized her for allegedly being an "attention-seeker."
2. AB6IX Daewhi
AB6IX Daehwi
For former Wanna One-turned-AB6IX member Daehwi, the young idol received hate for his body weight. During an episode of Mnet's Not the Same Person You Used to Know, Daehwi revealed that he weighed around 51.5kg at the time, with his waist measuring 17 to 20 inches.

As this kind of weight figure is usually seen on female idols, Daehwi was criticized for being "not manly" enough.
3. NMIXX Jiwoo
NMIXX Jiwoo
Not long after Jiwoo made her debut as a member of NMIXX this year, the rookie idol came under scrutiny and drew attention to her weight as well.
Despite only being 17 years old, netizens were quick to draw issue to Jiwoo's "chubby" figure, particular her "thick legs," which led them to call out the NMIXX member and demand she "take manage herself better" so that her performances look better in terms of her weight.
4. EXO Chen
EXO Chen
K-pop idols dating remains a divided topic among fans, especially if the idol is popular. So, when Chen broke the news of his marriage to his then-non-celebrity girlfriend and her pregnancy, fans were quick to cancel the EXO member.

Fans had demanded that Chen leave the group after claims that he had "betrayed" them. It even came to a point where fans protested outside of SM Entertainment calling for his removal.

These days, K-pop idols debuting at such a young age has become controversial, given how taxing the life of an idol is. So when Boeun made her debut with CLASS:y at the young age of 14 years old, many were divided with her entering the industry young.
But she garnered hate when she was seen on MBC's Omniscient Interfering View drinking baby formula to grow taller. This led to netizens criticizing the young idol's actions as "creepy."
