What Happened to LE SSERAFIM & Lim Young Woong's 'Music Bank' Case? Police Provide Update

Police have given an update on the investigation of the controversial "Music Bank" score that led to Lim Young Woong's loss at that time he was up against LE SSERAFIM for first place. KBS has since released an official statement regarding it.

Update on Investigation of 'Music Bank' Case Involving LE SSERAFIM & Lim Young Woong

On Oct. 14, Sports Kyunghyang released an exclusive report stating that the Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station- which received the complaint regarding the "Music Bank" score of Lim Young Woong- had given an update on the investigation they began on May 29.

According to the media outlet, police have converted the broadcasting station KBS into a suspect of manipulating the scores of the trot singer.

In response to the report, KBS once again firmly stated that they have never rigged any broadcast scores. They added that they will continue to cooperate with the police in the investigation to ensure that the suspicions will be cleared.

Last August, Sports Kyunghyang reported that a "Music Bank" official has been formally charged on manipulating the broadcast scores on the May 13 episode of the music show where LE SSERAFIM and Lim Young Woong were nominated for first place.

The news outlet also stated that the police have been conducting an internal investigation with a KBS official as a reference. They further said that the broadcasting station provided the police with materials related to the scoring criteria for broadcasting scores on "Music Bank."

To recall, Lim Young Woong's 'If We Ever Meet Again" and LE SSERAFIM's "FEARLESS" were candidates for first place on the May 13 episode of "Music Bank." The trot singer earned higher scores in digital performance and album sales than the girl group, but ended up losing after getting a broadcast score of 0 points.

Lim Young Woong's fan club has since demanded an explanation from KBS as to how a song that was leading in terms of digital scores could fall to second place due mainly to its broadcast score.

"Music Bank" responded to the issue saying that "If We Ever Meet Again" received a broadcast score of 0 points because it was not played on any KBS TV programs, radio shows, or digital content during the tracking week of May 2 to 8. But Dispatch soon released a report pointing out that Lim Young Woong's song had, in fact, been played on multiple KBS radio stations during the said week.

However, KBS's "Music Bank" said that the radio broadcast score is calculated using only seven KBS Cool FM radio shows.

As the accusations of rigging continued, a civilian ultimately submitted a complaint with South Korea's Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission alleging that "Music Bank" tampered with Lim Young Woong's broadcast score.
