Secret To Psy's Long Concerts? On-Stage Massages And Acupuncture

Even before the his international hit "Gangnam Style" Psy had a huge number of fans in South Korea. Thousands of people regularly flock to his notoriously over-the-top live shows and the performances never cease to amaze.

Psy concerts are generally very long, running around an average of three hours and feature dancing, theatrics, special effects, and special guests.

But how does the 35-year old rapper-singer keep it up? The secret lies midway through each show with a DJ set.

For a segment of every performance, Psy does a DJ set while, from the waist down, he has a massage therapist and acupuncturist work their magic on his ailing legs.

"Yes, I have a man to massage my legs as the [shows] are so long. For example, like a soccer player, when they have some pain on their back. I am Psy the gentleman," the Korean pop star explained in an interview with BBC Radio 1.

Psy also explained how it works, "I did 20 songs, for more than two hours, then I have pain in my legs but I can't take a break because they are waiting... Behind the stage there are the trainers and my acupuncturist. So I stand up for it and my upper body looks like I'm a DJ but someone injecting needles into me and massaging my legs below."

Always aiming to please his fans, Psy sees the mid-show massage as a way for him to still entertain the audience while getting the break he needs.

"The regular show is within three hours but after that the encore, it depends on my mood, but minimum is one and a half hours. I had a record some years ago that was four hours 45 minutes long, the tickets are expensive and it's a very special day for them. Once a year. I want them to have money's worth," he added.

Maybe Psy really is a "gentleman" after all.
