IU's Mom Got Mad at Her Because of the Seat Cushions for "The Golden Hour" Concert

On Sept. 17 and 18, IU held her two-day solo concert in Seoul, South Korea, titled "The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun." It was her first solo concert in the city in three years since "Love Poem" in 2019.

The two-day show took place at Seoul Olympic Stadium, the biggest stadium in South Korea. With that, IU made history as the very first female K-pop artist to perform at the said venue.

More than 40,000 people attended each concert, totaling 88,000 attendees. The show on each day lasted for three hours and 30 minutes, with IU performing her famous songs including "Eight," "Celebrity," "Strawberry Moon," "Hold My Hand," "Good Day," and many more.

There were multiple spectacles throughout IU's "The Golden Hour" concert, such as fireworks, the beautiful hot air balloon, and a brilliant drone show.

Another notable thing to find at the concert is the seat cushion in every seat. The cushion has the details of the concert date, location, logo, etc. The audience was able to take home the cushions as souvenirs after the show ended.

It was revealed that IU's mother was the one who prepared the seat cushions at her own expense to show her deep gratitude for the fans who came to her daughter's concert.

IU said during her "The Golden Hour" concert:

"This cushion is a cushion that my mother placed an order for and prepared a month and a half ago. You don't have to leave it. Take it with you when you go home."

In a new video uploaded to IU's official YouTube channel, the female soloist shared a behind-the-scenes story, revealing that her mom got mad at her before the concert and the reason concerns the cushions. But it isn't because she didn't want to make them but because IU changed her decision about the color but it was too late.

While getting the seat cushions out of a plastic, IU shared:

"My mom made this. This time, unlike the squared cushion before, we made the edges round. I first asked for Uaena's color and mint. But then [I thought], 'Shouldn't it be orange and pink?' So I asked my mom again and she got mad at me. [She said], 'You should've told [me] in advance."

She added, "There's no changing, I think the colors are fine. But I thought again, 'But shouldn't we use pink and orange for the theme?'."

In response, her mom said, "The factory is already running with orders!" IU then told the staff, "It would've been great if the cushions were orange and pink."

Regardless of the seat cushion's color, Uaenas are thankful for the gift from IU's mom for them as it made them more comfortable throughout IU's "The Golden Hour" concert.

IU Nominated at the 2022 Mnet Asian Music Awards

In other news, IU earned nominations in multiple categories at the 2022 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). She was nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Vocal Performance Solo ("Drama"), Song of the Year ("Drama"), and Worldwide Fans' Choice Top 10.

Additionally, Jay Park's "GANADARA," where IU is a featured artist, is nominated for Best Hip Hop & Urban Music and Song of the Year.

Voting will kick off on Nov. 4 at 11:59 p.m. KST on the official website designed for the 2022 MAMA.

The 2022 Mnet Asian Music Awards will be held at Osaka's Kyocera Dome in Japan on Nov. 29 and 30.
