Sony first announced during its E3 2013 press conference that Kingdom Hearts 3 will launch on PlayStation 4. However, later, it was revealed that it will head to Microsoft Xbox One as well.

During the presentation of the game developer of Kingdom Hearts 3, Square Enix, it was revealed that the game will be available worldwide for both Sony PS4 and Xbox One users. Furthermore, the CEO and co-founder of Disney Interactive, John Pleasants, took the stage and proudly announced that this specific installment of the series of Kingdom Hearts game will be the "most action-packed."

Kingdom Hearts 3 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as unveiled during the E3 2013 event in Los Angeles, will focus on a mature Sora and his adventures with other Disney characters namely Mickey, Goofy and Donald. Sora, the main character in Kingdom Hearts 3 will travel to all new worlds with Disney themes, which was a first for the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

The Kingdom Hearts game series has been in development as a collaboration with Disney Interactive. The announcement was made alongside the introduction of the Final Fantasy 15, the latest installment for the Final Fantasy franchise.

Shinji Hashimoto, the game producer, stated that Kingdom Hearts 3 is already being developed by the team that is also responsible for the Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and the forthcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix for the PlayStation Portable. He also mentioned that Square Enix has to be flexible with the console platforms for their games, thus, making it available for rival consoles, the Xbox One and Playstation 4.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is already available for pre-order in Amazon and initial release will be at the end of 2014. Also, Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox One are also available for pre-order in Amazon, for release both at the latter part of 2013.
