Where Is Jeong Jiyoon Now? Status of 'Girls Planet 999' Trainee Who Ranked 5th

Jeong Jiyoon is best known for her participation in Mnet's "Girls Planet 999," through which the project girl group Kep1er was formed. She managed to rank fifth in K-Group during the theme song evaluation test. However, she was eliminated from the survival show in the end.

It has been a year since the program ended, so let's find out where "Girls Planet 999" trainee Jeong Jiyoon is at present.

Who Is 'Girls Planet 999' Trainee Jeong Jiyoon?

Jeong Jiyoon was an individual trainee when she competed in Mnet's "Girls Planet 999," meaning she was not affiliated with any agency. But she did experience training under an entertainment company, specifically Polaris Entertainment.

Founded in 2006, Polaris Entertainment is known for previously housing Ladies' Code and former Wonder Girls member Sunye. Blockberry Creative, home to LOONA, is currently its subsidiary label.

Jiyoon became a trainee under Polaris sometime in 2018 or earlier and ultimately became a member of the company's trainee group called Polaris Junior. She parted ways with the label at some unknown point in time. She has since been an independent trainee.

K-pop Trainee Jeong Jiyoon's Journey on Mnet's "Girls Planet 999"

On July 7, 2021, Jeong Jiyoon was announced as a contestant on Mnet's "Girls Planet 999" through a prologue trailer, together with other trainees. Her profile was officially released on July 17.

During the theme song evaluation test, Jiyoon ranked fifth among the 33 trainees part of the Korean Group or K-Group. In episode 2 of the show, Jiyoon performed Little Mix's "Bounce Back" with Kim Bora. That performance earned her the No. 5 spot in the first top 9 of the show.

When the 99 trainees were divided into Cells of three, she was part of the team including Nakamura Kyara and Wang Ya Le. When the Cells were reformed, she was added to the group including Ezaki Hikaru and Su Rui Qi.

In episode 5, it was revealed that Jiyoon ranked 15th in the K-Group and her Cell took No. 3. During the Connect Mission of Mnet's "Girls Planet 999," Jeong Jiyoon was part of the group that covered EXO's "The Eve." Then, during the Combination Mission, she was a member of the team that performed IU's "My Sea."

When episode 8 came, Jiyoon ranked 12th in the K-Group. Her rank, however, eliminated her from the program, as only eight trainees per group were permitted to move on to the next round.

Where Is Jeong Jiyoon Now? Status of 'Girls Planet 999' Trainee Who Ranked 5th in K-Group

Just two weeks after "Girls Planet 999" concluded, on Nov. 8, 2021, she announced on her Instagram story that she joined KM Entertainment as a trainee. Then, on Oct. 25 this 2022, she revealed that she will be added as a new member of the company's girl group ICHILLIN'. Her addition came after member Sohee left the group on July 15.

On Nov. 10, former "Girls Planet 999" contestant Jeong Jiyoon debuted as a K-pop idol with ICHILLIN's single album "Draw (My Time)," which marked the group's third comeback since their debut in September 2021.
