3 K-pop Idols Whose Parents Had Contributions in Their Music Videos

Many K-pop idols today had to convince their parents so that they can reach the career they have right now. Being a K-pop idol isn't easy after all, so it's understandable that parents didn't want their child to take the career path they chose.

While this is the case for several idols, there are artists whose parents give their full support to their children. In fact, there are a few known parents who are so supportive that they even contributed to their child's music videos- below are three examples.

3 K-pop Idols Whose Parents Had Contributions in Their Music Videos

1. Jeon Somi

In October 2021, Somi made a comeback with her first full album "XOXO," and the title song of the same name. The music video for "XOXO" continues the storyline of her previous track "Dumb Dumb." At the end of "Dumb Dumb," Somi starts dating the man in the man in the MV, and in "XOXO" she breaks up with him and the MV follows her as she gets revenge on her ex for cheating on her.

In Jeon Somi's "XOXO" MV, she kidnaps and gags her ex-boyfriend, and when a sheriff passes by them, she rips off the gag and pretends nothing bad is happening. The sheriff is none other than her father, Matthew Douma. This part can be seen toward the MV.

Somi's makeup artist, YouTuber Pony revealed that the female idol was the one who came up with the idea of inviting her dad to appear in the music video, as they lack a person to act as a policeman.

2. Former 2NE1 CL

Like Jeon Somi, CL also got some help from her father for a music video, particularly for 2NE1's "Can't Nobody" MV, which came out in 2010.

In the middle part of the music video, chic robots that were the same height as male adults appeared in one of CL's solo scenes. These robots were no other than the work of CL's dad.

In an interview, 2NE1's leader shared, "My dad likes to make robots as a hobby, as well as writing." She continued, "The robots that my father made will come out in 'Can't Nobody' music video."

3. MONSTA X Joohoney

CL's father, Lee Gijin, is a physics professor at Seokang University and is also a children's book author who published the "Kaka" series.

While we can't find a video or interview about this, it is said that Joohoney's mother made the red jewel in the music video for MONSTA X's "Gambler." It can be seen in the middle part of the MV after Joohoney's solo part.

But one thing is confirmed Joohoney's mom is a jewelry designer, which coincides with the rumor that she made the jewel in the MV. The MONSTA X member has mentioned his mom's job several times in interviews and vlogs. In fact, his mom made a necklace for him and the idol wrote the lyrics "my mom is a jewelry designer and I have be a DIA because I'm her son. Because my mom designed me" for his "DIA" mixtape.
