On this day, a photo of the rumored girlfriend was spread online, asking for further details about her identity among other fandoms.
The rumor actually started when the said "GF" took to her Instagram Story to answer questions sent by her followers.
A netizen particularly asked:
"Are you dating anyone?"
The girl then responded ,"Yes," sharing a photo of a human-sized teddy bear.

While it wasn't much of a big deal if the said woman is dating, it became huge after keen-eyed fans noticed that the teddy bear is similar to one brought by SEVENTEEN Vernon when he arrived in Korea from an overseas schedule.
With this, people speculated that Vernon personally bought the bear as a gift to her girlfriend, after wrapping up their North American concert as a part of their 2022-2023 SEVENTEEN World Tour, "Be the Sun."

This is according to MOAs (SEVENTEEN fandom) who are also followers of the junior group's staff. People claimed that Vernon's sister is also following her.
People speculated that Vernon met her during joint schedules between HYBE artists, which include SEVENTEEN (Pledis) and TXT (Big Hit).
The third and last hint was Vernon wearing a "couple" item.
On Twitter, photos of the idol and the said girlfriend were shared, wherein they were seen wearing couple hats and rings.
Following this rumor, CARATs (fandom of SEVENTEEN) were very supportive of the idea of Vernon dating someone.
Despite this, the fandom still pleaded with netizens to stop sharing the photo of the rumored girlfriend, as the aforementioned hints could be merely coincidence only.

On December 23, the male idol introduced his first solo mixtape, "Black Eye," a pop-punk genre song that combines casually sung vocals and cheerful band sounds.
With this release, Vernon declared his desire to show his music identity outside SEVENTEEN, saying:
"I wanted to show you a rough and free side with 'Black Eye.' I think this work will be a good nourishment for me to grow as an artist in the future."
He added:
"The pop-punk genre, which deals with various emotions such as anger, depression, and loneliness, is attractive. I captured myself in 'Black Eye' that I haven't shown before. It was hectic throughout the work, but I was excited because I wanted to show it to CARAT (SEVENTEEN fans) quickly."
"Black Eye" was released on global music sites such as iTunes, Spotify, and Apple Music and global music platform SoundCloud.
Its official MV was also unveiled on YouTube, which already amassed 2.7M views two weeks after its release.
