2023 Global Hallyu Trend Survey: BTS Crowned as Overall Most Favorite Artist

On March 10, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) conducted a survey in 26 different countries from various continents including North and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
In particular, a total of 25,000 people aged 15-59 were tasked to answer two questions;
- Who is your current favorite Korean actor?
- Who is your current favorite Korean singer/group?
The aim of the survey is to learn more about the perception and behavior of global fans who like and consume K-content, also known as "Hallyu" content around the world. The sample group selected for the survey is half gender ratio. The sample distribution is also the result of evenly distributing 6,250 people by age group.
BTS
One of the most eye-catching results of the survey is the subjective questioning of actors/singers. In the overall national category of favorite idols or singers, the "Prince of Pop" BTS overwhelmingly topped the overall voting singer and group category.
Amid their hiatus and few group activities in 2022, the team proved their position as the "biggest boy group in the world" by topping the overall rankings with 31.3% as well ranking No. 1 in every 26 countries except in China, Thailand and Malaysia.
BLACKPINK
Following the septet is the "biggest girl group in the world" BLACKPINK, who ranked second with 10.8%. Among the countries, the team showed their influence the most and topped the charts in Thailand (35.1%) and Malaysia (28.9%).
In third place in Psy, 2.6%, who entered the top 5 in 17 countries.
"Nation's Girl Group" TWICE then ranked fourth with 1.8% of the votes. The nonet especially showed their power in Asia specifically in Japan and Taiwan.
IU completed the top 5 overall rankings with 1.7%. IU enjoyed immense support in China and ranked No. 1 with 6.7% of the votes.
