THIS K-pop Rookie Group Earns Spot on US Spotify But NOT on MelOn — Who Are They?

It is hard for a K-pop rookie to earn a spot on a global music platform, mainly if they still need to rank on local music charts. But this rookie group made it possible!

FIFTY FIFTY Breaks Record

On March 19, the rookie K-pop girl group FIFTY FIFTY was spotted among global streaming platform on Spotify. The newbie group is surprisingly popular among international K-pop fans, but they haven't even been spotted on MelOn, South Korea's major music streaming platform.

FIFTY FIFTY is also under the label ATTRAKT, a small agency compared to other trending K-pop groups. Despite only a few months after their debut, the group has received much attention from K-pop fans, precisely international audiences, due to their unique and addictive song releases.

The girl group debuted last November 2022. They released an EP, "Fifty", and the title track," Higher." Their album only sold over 4,000 copies.

 

While their previous EP, "The Fifty," had them hooked, their recent comeback "Cupid" and its corresponding Twin Version, the English version of the track, have been doing exceptionally well on the Spotify.

The girl group's most recent release "Cupid (Twin Version)," debuted on Spotify with approximately 1.06 million streams, ranking 191 on the Global Spotify chart.

On the other hand, the song has 800,000 streams per day, and its MV hit on 6.9 million views.

Given that the group sits next to SHINee Key and BTS Jin, with NewJeans being the only other 4th-generation girl group, fans are extremely pleased with their achievements and can't wait to discover what FIFTY FIFTY has in store for them.

Meanwhile, their debut garners praise and commence in other ways. A Korean critic gave their song a 4.5 over 5 stars rate, considered the highest rate they have provided for a girl group.

The rookie was also named by The Recording Academy as one of the K-pop girl groups to watch this year, stating, "the quartet displays various colours and a vocal maturity that is both hard to find and crucial to have."  

They were also labelled by the Rolling Stones India's best K-Pop debuts of 2022.

With such high-profile praise, the members of FIFTY FIFTY have successfully demonstrated their remarkable talent to a broad audience despite being from a small label. Their international success will encourage more Korean fans to listen to their music, as they deserve to do well in their home country.

Meet FIFTY FIFTY + Discography

The rookie girl group FIFTY FIFTY debuted last November 2022 under the ATTRAKT agency. The four-member group consists of Aran (vocalist), Sio (vocalist), Keena (Rapper), and Saena (Rapper).

 The mini-album featured four songs: "Tell Me," "Lovin' Me," "Higher," and "Log In." 

"Tell Me" and "Lovin' Me" are unit songs, with the former featuring Aran and Keena and the latter featuring Sio and Seena.

Following "The Fifty," their latest release was "The Beginning: Cupid," released last February 2023. The single was accompanied by a Twin Version, which includes a full-English track and an instrumental version.

 

Their fans are looking forward to more tracks released by the rookie groups. Their songs catch a large audience's attention, and they anticipate their upcoming success as a rising K-pop girl group.
