LE SSERAFIM's 'UNFORGIVEN' Album Trailer Draws Mixed Reactions Due to Use of Japanese Language

On April 9, rookie monster LE SSERAFIM has uploaded "Burn the Bridge," the first teaser for album "UNFORGIVEN."

The video showed LE SSERAFIM members through a flawless cinematography, which transitioned from stylish aesthetics to futuristic concepts. It also contained a hint of fantasy elements, which delighted everyone's eyes.

While LE SSERAFIM already has everyone's attention with their first full-length album, they definitely secured everyone's hearts with this brand new trailer. In a forum, fans praised the video's quality and its production.

"I freaking liked it though? The quality is crazy and I'm freaking looking forward to it."

"The music they use in their intro tracks for the albums is so my style and I feel like it fits their aesthetic so much."

However, some netizens were thrown off guard by the trailer, leading it to receive mixed reactions. During the trailer's 0:25 mark, LE SSERAFIM Sakura started the dialogue in Japanese, which surprised many.

Netizens wondered why LE SSERAFIM would begin the trailer with a Japanese introduction, despite it being a Korean comeback. Moreover, some pointed out how the trailer's first scene resembled the Japanese flag, since it showed a pool of blood on a white-tiled floor.

"I thought that it was blood in the first scene, but I can understand why it could look like a Japanese flag."

"I think that it would've been better if they started the trailer in Korean."

"The fact that they started with Japanese kinda makes them look like a Japanese group."

"I've always enjoyed their music and I hope that they would drop the Japanese in their teasers. They are K-pop idols so why use Japanese?"

"No but what's with the Japanese? It turns me off right away. I'd rather them use English first."

FEARNOTs Defend LE SSERAFIM From 'Unnecessary' Complaints

Meanwhile, LE SSERAFIM's fandom FEARNOTs took over the discussion, and backed up the group from the negativity.

They expressed frustration over internet users who complained about the use of Japanese language. Fans stated the group is multi-lingual, and would ultimately sing the song in Korean.

Some were also frustrated with them for preferring the English language, but not Japanese. Others claimed how K-pop agencies use a group's multi-cultural roots to expand the music market on certain countries the members are affiliated with.

Fans commented:

"They will be singing the song in Korean ultimately so who cares? The group itself is multi-lingual."

"They have Japanese members. Not allowing them to talk in their mother language for their album is weird."

"It's a well made trailer. About language, why IS IT okay if they use English but complain when they use Japanese?"

"They are triggered with Japanese but okay with the amount of English used in K-pop song LOL."

"I'm glad they're using Japanese and English even if they're using it to increase the market there."
