IU Embroiled in Plagiarism Allegations Involving 6 Songs + Uaenas Enraged Over Claims

IU has been accused of plagiarizing six tracks, bringing agency EDAM Entertainment into the forefront and Uaenas to the idol's defense.

Here are the details.

IU's Alleged Plagiarism Reaches Out to Police Authorities, Accuser Makes Statement

On May 10, media outlet Maeil Kyungjae reported that an anonymous individual has accused IU of plagiarism.

According to the claims, IU had allegedly plagiarized music from both domestic and international artists, which led to her iconic works. The accuser stated that plagiarism was evident on six of IU's songs, namely "The Red Shoes," "Good Day," "BBIBBI," "Pitiful" "Celebrity," and "Boo."

The accuser claims that these IU songs were similar to other artists' sound, in terms of melody, rhythm, and chords.

"When it comes to melody, rhythm, and chord progression, all 6 of IU's songs are closely similar to its structure. In the case of "The Red Shoes," the general public would agree on the noticeable resemblance on its intro."

In the report, it also stated that IU was also previously alleged of plagiarizing "Here Us" by Nekta in 2013, resembling "The Red Shoes."

Sources state that Nekta reached out to IU's former label Loen Entertainment since they were aware of the plagiarism claims. However, the band didn't receive any reply since then.

The complainant added:

"IU didn't provide any explanation before regarding previous plagiarism allegations. Instead, she reported the social media posts that shed light to the matter be taken down, due to reasons as copyright infringement."

The report stated that copyright law violations undergo prosecution after a complaint. It added that original authors who are suspected of plagiarism must report a complaint. However, in this case, habitual infringement can allow witnesses to sue the accused.

EDAM Entertainment Responds, Uaenas Express Anger to Claims

In response to the claims, IU's agency released a statement, expressing their awareness of the situation. The agency has taken actions by filing a complaint to an investigative agency, involving complaint filing and investigative procedures.

They also gave a stern warning to those who spread defaming comments regarding IU, as well as misleading information. Furthermore, EDAM Entertainment assured everyone their full cooperation to resolve the ongoing issue.

Uaenas voiced out their frustration to the anonymous accuser:

"This is f**king random, IU fighting."

"This person should just work hard living their own life. Imagine how jealous they must be."

"This is a legendary troll. Leave IU alone."

"IU's trolls are just of another level. Use that hate energy on your own life or something."

"Charging someone is different from accusing someone. Charges come from the people involved while accusations come from 3rd parties."

"LOL an uninvolved party is accusing her of plagiarizing the intro to songs she didn't compose. This is as stupid as the NK spy rumor they tried to spread about her."
