Super Junior Heechul Criticized After Asking aespa NingNing's Ideal Type – Here's Why

On JTBC's "Knowing Bros," which aired on the 10th, aespa comprised of Karina, Winter and NingNing appeared as special guests. Unfortunately, Giselle wasn't able to join them due to her poor health condition.

Despite that, aespa, after the broadcast, immediately received favorable reviews from K-pop fans for the members' outspoken personalities and sense of entertainment.

On social media, NingNing's "savage" humor and "maknae on top" particularly garner a lot of attention.

As clips about NingNing's hilarious antics circulated on the web, one particular Twitter video amassed views and attention— but this time, people rolled their eyes at it.

In the video, aespa was asked by the "Knowing Brothers" hosts about their ideal types. All three members replied that they take into consideration the personality of the other person rather than their looks. However, NingNing said:

"I don't look at the appearance."

Super Junior Heechul "recommended" MC Young Chul, explaining:

"Young Chul has the best personality among us all."

The idol showed a confused expression, but she elicited a wave of laughter when she responded:

"Ah, really? So?"

Following the broadcast, NingNing was praised for her savage personality and lauded for not "falling into the trap" of Heechul.

On the flip side, the male idol and host's comment didn't sit well with viewers, calling him out for his "disgusting" remark of trying to set NingNing up with Yong Chul, who is way older than her.

MYs expressed their frustration that young girls received questions about their ideal types from middle-aged men.

ELFs Defend Super Junior Heechul From Hateful Comments

As the Twitter post blew up, ELFs (Super Junior fandom) took to the SNS to defend Heechul, who earned the most spite from netters.

According to his fans, Heechul is not setting NingNing up, but rather, he's just doing a similar joke that he's been doing even to Red Velvet and BLACKPINK before.

Basically, the context of the joke is trying to hilariously change the woman's initial decision of not looking in appearance— after seeing Young Chul, the "guy with the best personality."

As an additional explanation, the "Knowing Brothers" cast and Young Chul have been making fun of his own looks since the earlier episodes of the show to make the broadcast funnier, thus, ELFs clarified that Heechul has any malicious intention by saying the aforementioned remark to NingNing.

ELFs also called out MYs for not knowing the "Knowing Bros" reputation when it comes to throwing jokes, implying that they were "overreacting" to Heechul's remark which was supposed to be just funny.

Meanwhile, as the two fandoms were in a heated discussion, Super Junior Heechul and aespa NingNing showed their close senior-junior relationship after the idol shared a selfie with aespa along with his dog.

The photo appears to have been taken in the waiting room when aespa appeared on JTBC's "Knowing Bros."
