FIFTY FIFTY Criticized for Filing Lawsuit Against ATTRAKT

FIFTY FIFTY explained the reason for their decision to sue their company ATTRAKT, but Koreans aren't buying it. People stated they don't support the group's legal battle against the label.

In context, the controversy started on June 23 when ATTRAKT started a legal battle with Warner Music Korea, The Givers, and more after accusing them of an "unauthorized external forced" who was trying to poach the rising quartet into joining their companies instead.

At the time, it was just announced that the group would temporarily take a break due to health problems; thus, fans' sympathy was directed to FIFTY FIFTY, who was allegedly "being damaged by [their] own agency."

However, on June 28, the public opinion turned 360° after FIFTY FIFTY announced that they filed a lawsuit against ATTRAKT to temporarily suspend the validity of their contracts.

Regarding the reason, the group's legal representative explained:

"We raised questions about various circumstances in which (ATTRAKT) did not fulfill their contractual obligations, such as the non-transparent settlement and the unilateral attempt to enforce schedules even though (the members) revealed a difficult health condition."

However, hearing the position of the group, numerous people criticized FIFTY FIFTY for asking to terminate its exclusive contract with their agency due to settlement issues, especially since they are a group that debuted less than a year ago.

People emphasize that regardless of "Cupid" being a multi-hit track, ATTRAKT is just a small company that is yet to attain its revenue's break-even point.

Koreans also raised their brows against the quartet and accused them of making the payment as an excuse to leave the label to transfer to a bigger company.

These are what they're saying:

  • "It's not even a big entertainment agency, but isn't it too hasty to settle the bill?"
  • "It's been less than a year since they debuted, and I can't believe they are already talking about settlement, you've only been active with one song..."
  • "You've been promoting with one song, but you are now complaining that the settlement is not transparent."
  • "Does it mean that the agency only discovers and doesn't make money?"
  • "Do small and medium-sized agencies dig and produce?"

Hunnies Defend FIFTY FIFTY from Criticism

While FIFTY FIFTY was on the cutting board, Hunnies (fandom) defended the quartet from hateful comments and speculations about their lawsuit against ATTRAKT.

In fact, a lot of the group's fans are in favor of the group transferring to a new label that will maximize their current popularity to expand and make their music more known globally.

Fans claimed that ATTRAKT failed to utilize the fame of "Cupid" to release FIFTY FIFTY's new songs and create a solid fandom while they were at their peak.

  • "If I am FIFTY FIFTY, I would like to go to a large agency as well."
  • "Large agencies do better than small and medium-sized agencies."
  • "If there is anything to be settled by the agency, they should definitely settle it."
