Is BLACKPINK Still the Biggest K-pop Girl Group in History? Here's What People Are Saying

On July 2, netizens have opened an online discussion where they talked about BLACKPINK's reputation as the biggest girl group in K-pop.

K-pop has gone a long way ever since it started in the nineties, mounting its way through its golden age in the second gen, global expansion in the third gen, and now the fourth gen, the era where social media trending is prominent for promotions as well as recognition.

BLACKPINK is one of the most notable names in the industry, known for their hits such as "DDU-DU-DDU-DU," "Kill This Love," "BOOMBAYAH," "Playing With Fire," and many more.

Not only did they manage to establish a solid fanbase in both local and international regions as a group, but also gained a massive following when it comes to their solo projects.

In a forum, netizens elaborated that BLACKPINK dominates in aspects such as digital streaming, physical album sales, CF numbers, and the hard work of each member in their solo releases.

People also mentioned that their popularity is evident in their media exposure, and questioned which girl group can surpass BLACKPINK in terms of impact. Others were confident in their current status as the biggest K-pop girl group.

Read their comments below:

"Digital, physical, tour scale, number of CFs, results of the members' solos, isn't BP the top for all of those? To the kids who are denying this, which group can have better results than BP?"

"It's true that BLACKPINK is the 3rd gen female idol with the highest results and still going in the long run. They're still being mentioned in featured talks as if they were the current generation idols."

"They are currently the biggest girl group in the world. I don't think there's any doubt about that."

"If you're talking about 'girl group in history,' you need to count the 2nd gen female idols too, but the standards are just so different that it's meaningless to compare groups across generations. It's true that they're the top 3rd gen gg though."

"Isn't it a fact that they are the top girl group of the 3rd gen? Which 3rd gen girl group can objectively top BLACKPINK in terms of results?"

"Just seeing how there are still trolls after them manipulating the comments, you can tell that BP are definitely still the top. BP has many trolls after them than 4th gen groups."

BLACKPINK debuted under YG Entertainment on August 8, 2016, and is comprised of members Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa.
