In an interview, Dawn talked about the song about his ex-girlfriend HyunA, and mentioned one of the reasons he left Psy's label P NATION.

Dawn Reveals How HyunA Helped Him After Leaving Cube, Expresses Love For Ex-GF

In a recent interview with Dawn, the former PENTAGON member and now soloist indirectly mentioned his ex-girlfriend HyunA as he introduced the song dedicated to her.

In April, Dawn dropped his single, "Dear My Light," which drew rave reviews for its sincere lyrics and genuine emotions.

At the time, it became even more of a hot topic after his past lover HyunA liked the song and even shared a snippet of its lyrics on her personal Instagram.

"I met you when you were the prettiest
I could endure whatever
no matter what anyone said."

Thus, when asked to confirm if it was a song about her relationship with the former Wonder Girls member, Dawn honestly replied:

"It is true that it is about past relationships. I find it rather strange to deny it. I want to talk about what I'm going through right now as an artist."

Citing the same lyrics that HyunA shared as his favorite lyrics, he indirectly mentioned its background story, saying:

"I recalled the time when I left the company (Cube Entertainment), when comments, media, and many stories came and went. I was very young at the time and it was so hard at the time.

Although the whole world felt like it was against us, we were able to overcome it because we had each other and loved each other so much."

Dawn and HyunA, who met as seniors and juniors of Cube Entertainment, began to publicly date in 2018.

Unfortunately, the couple, who was loved and received immense support from fans, decided to end their relationship in November 2022.

Regarding the lyrics, "It's okay if I lose everything about myself, as long as I can see you shining brightly," Dawn expressed his love and respect for HyunA, explaining:

"It directly reflects the feelings of when I fell in love. If you love someone, you cherish your loved one as if you cherish yourself."

Dawn Mentions Reason He Left P NATION

In the same interview, Dawn also answered the reason he left P NATION, the label that he and HyunA transferred to after being kicked out by Cube.

At the time of his departure, there were rumors about his "beef" with founder Psy, but he clarified:

"It was because I wanted to show a new side of myself and that I needed to recharge for about four to five months, thinking about 'what I want to be' and 'how I want to define myself as an artist.'"

He updated on his current status in his new nest, AT AREA, led by the duo GroovyRoom.

"Since then, I've met a crew with whom I can do creative work together, and I'm working very happily with a label that can truly understand what I'm trying to do."
