Who Will Benefit Most if BLACKPINK Lisa Stays in YG? Investors, Knetz Weigh In

Amid the finalization of BLACKPINK's contract renewal with YG Entertainment, investors and K-pop fans debate on who will benefit the most if Lisa stays.

BLACKPINK Lisa's Possible Departure from YG Leads to 8% Plummet in Agency's Stocks

After the initial report that YG Entertainment is yet to ensure Lisa's contract renewal, stock prices faltered significantly plummeting to over 8%.

BLACKPINK Lisa's rumored departure from the company is causing investors "deep anxiety" and will be a huge problem for YG.

Amedia outlet explained:

"YG Entertainment has no artist other than BLACKPINK who makes clear results. In other words, it has a problem similar to the "one-game risk" of some domestic game companies."

As of July 24, BLACKPINK ranks as the No. 1 K-pop artist with the most YouTube subscribers, having 90.1 million subscribed to their official channel.

This beats BTS with only 75.8 million subscribers. Most of YG Entertainment's sales also comes from BLACKPINK.

According to an analysis by Hyundai Motor Securities:

"BLACKPINK's contribution to YG Entertainment's 2023 operating profit is expected to be more than 85%. BLACKPINK is also expected to take charge of 75% of YG Entertainment's ticket sales and 63% of album sales this year."

With this, investors pointed out YG Entertainment will suffer the most if Lisa or any other BLACKPINK member will leave the company, not to mention that BIGBANG G-Dragon also left the agency earlier in June.

Investors, K-netz Advise BLACKPINK Lisa to Remain in YG Entertainment

On the flip side, there are investors and internet users who claim that Lisa must renew her contract with YG no matter what for "her and her group's sake."

According to them, BLACKPINK will also suffer if Lisa leaves the company, pointing out that their popularity will "decrease" if the members will be scattered in different companies.

People also advised the team to maintain the momentum and focus on expanding global activities, amid the upcoming debut of its junior girl group.

An investor pointed out:

"In the case of existing idol groups, Lisa would benefit herself only if she stayed in YG."

They added:

"No matter how large a successful group is, there has been no case that some members have continued to rise as a result of leaving the team thinking about their existing popularity. Lisa herself should make a wise decision for the group and herself."

With this, K-netz agreed.

  • "Lisa needs to remain with BLACKPINK. If she leaves, she'll end up a nugu."
  • "Honestly, even to people like me who have no interest in idols, Lisa has no unique charm or personality that makes her stand out, she's just a typical foreigner idol. She doesn't possess that class or level to trend in Korea. She should be concerned more about herself getting kicked out from BLACKPINK. I just don't get why this group is popular globally."
