TO1 Chan Apologizes for Wearing THIS Controversial Outfit — But Stans Aren't Accepting It
TO1 member Chan has apologized online for a controversial outfit he wore during last year's KCON 2022 LA, but netizens aren't having it.
Here's what happened.
TO1 Chan Posts Public Apology for Controversial Outfit
Chan has apologized online for his previous actions.
On August 3, Chan uploaded a sincere apology on his Instagram Stories, which addressed his controversial wear of a durag during TO1's performance at KCON 2022 LA. This outwear led him to catch hot waters online, where netizens accused him of cultural appropriation.
In his statement, Chan expressed his regrets over his actions during the music event. The idol wore the durag to declare his respect for Hip-Hop culture but backfired because of the netizens' onslaught of reactions.
TO1 just covered“that that” and one of the members had a durag under the cowboy hat and took the cowboy hat off on the line “ya neaga” pic.twitter.com/R4AmPsNUgH

Chan also conveyed that no offense or discrimination to any culture was intended when he wore the clothing. The idol concluded how this would be a learning experience for him and expressed his resolve in doing better. Read his full statement below:
"Hello. This is Cho Chan Hyuk.
I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone who has been offended by my outfit for KCON 2022 LA's special stage.
After the incident, I have reflected on how to voice out my sincere condolences towards those who took offense on my actions. I am sorry for my late apology.
I wore durag to show my utmost respect for Hip-Hop culture, not fully understanding how inappropriate the action could be. I definitely had no intention to offend or degrade anyone or any culture.
On few occasions, I had been wearing the durag, whether it's on and off stage. But now, I am aware that I wasn't being mindful enough of the issue's seriousness.
With this opportunity, I plan to be more attentive with the issues related to diversity, as well as respect, and to become a more mature artist."

if you support chan (to1) and his “apology” hard block me right now. he does not care, said that he wears durags (on + off stage) because they’re “cool” and “trendy.” it took him this long to apologize “coincidentally” after wakeone mentioned doing something with to1. okay. pic.twitter.com/fjSerY5lB5
