SNSD Taeyeon, Sooyoung Praised for Donating $300k in 2023 So Far

Girls' Generation's Taeyeon and Sooyoung are praised for giving a cumulative donation of 400 million KRW ($301k) in 2023 so far, boasting their status not only as members of the "Nation's Girl Group" but also a group as people who spread positive influence.

SNSD Taeyeon, Sooyoung Admired for Good Deeds in 2023

On August 24, the Korean news outlet Sports KyungHyang wrote an article commending Girls' Generation for spreading positive influence in the K-pop scene through good deeds.

The article's highlight was Taeyeon and Sooyoung, who donated a cumulative 400 million KRW ($301k) this year alone.

The outlet wrote:

"As such, the donations made by Girls' Generation members are already more than 400 million won this year.

Currently, they are actively working in their respective places through stages, dramas, and entertainment.

But, they continue to exercise a good influence worthy of their reputation as the ORIGINAL GLOBAL GIRL GROUP representing K-pop through constant donation activities."

Starting with leader Taeyeon, Stump Foundation for Youth announced on its YouTube channel on August 24:

"The child care facility has begun remodeling with a donation of 100 million won ($75.4) from Girls' Generation Taeyeon."

In the video, Park Ji Hwan, director of the Gochang Happiness Center, said:

"The children who came here are wounded children. They go to school and live all their lives here to receive protection."

Director Park then complained of difficulties:

"The most difficult thing about Gochang Happiness Center is the space."

However, with Taeyeon's donation, the center was remodeled in all underdeveloped spaces.

In July, with Taeyeon's donation, its "Dream Site" facility was also completed. This is a project to improve welfare facilities for growing children and youth residential facilities preparing for self-reliance.

Gochang Happiness Center was selected as the first facility of "Dream Site." The $75.4k Taeyeon donated to the Youth Stump Foundation was delivered to the Gochang Happiness Center.

On August 21, Sooyoung donated to "develop a treatment for hereditary retinal disease."

Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital announced:

"Sooyoung has created a patient investment fund 'Retina 1' to support the development of genetic retinal disease treatments and delivered 300 million won (about $224k) to ' OligoNGene Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, recently established by Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital."

They explained the significance of this donation, saying:

"Genetic retinal disease is a rare disease that suffers from symptoms such as night blindness and tunnel vision from childhood due to genetic problems."

Thus, this donation will be beneficial to change the future of the patients suffering from the illness.
