K-Media Speculates 'Truth' About Canceled Debut of BABYMONSTER in September

YG Entertainment stated that BABYMONSTER's debut in September has been postponed to ensure the album's quality. With this, Korean media outlets and fans raised speculation about the real reason the girl group has to wait longer.

BABYMONSTER's Debut in September Delayed to 'Improve' Quality

In July, YG Entertainment confirmed that BABYMONSTER was preparing for their official debut in September.

At the time, it was reported that the debut project was "rapidly progressing," under the baton of YG's founder and executive producer Yang Hyun Suk.

Yang gave his word to fans, saying:

"The debut will not go beyond this fall."

Targeting the global market, the girl group is comprised of multinational members, such as Korean members Ahyeon, Haram, and Rora, Thai members Pharita and Chiquita, as well as Japanese members Ruka and Asa.

The expectation of them is also high since BABYMONSTER (Baemon) is a girl group that YG will launch about seven years after BLACKPINK.

As Yang initially hinted that the group will debut with an intense hip-hop genre song serving the "YG style," there is growing attention on how will they differ from its senior groups 2NE1 and BLACKPINK.

Unfortunately, September came, and content and updates about the seven members decreased as the days went by, until YG told the media and fans on the 23rd that the debut would be delayed to improve the group's album's quality.

Media, Fans Speculate Real Reason BABYMONSTER's Debut Was Canceled

While there are fans who expressed that they are willing to wait and trust YG's move, there are more people who raised their brows over the agency's decision.

Initially, K-pop fans claimed that the postponement of the debut may be related to BLACKPINK's rumors of not renewing their contracts with YG Entertainment. They think it would be "bad timing" to release the group amid the commotion.

However, the media think that it has something to do with Yang Hyun Suk.

On the 27th, the prosecution demanded a three-year prison term in the final trial dealing with charges such as Yang Hyun Suk's violation of the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (threats of retaliation, etc.).

On this day, Yang Hyun Suk said:

"There have been a lot of speculations over the past four years, but I wanted the truth to be revealed."

It is known that he appealed, saying:

"Please let me go back to my original position so that I can continue to cultivate K-pop juniors and create great content."

With September just a few days away, BABYMONSTER's debut has yet to be announced.

The Korean media outlet Ilgan Sports wrote:

"Labels or modifiers such as 'Yang Hyun Suk's group,' or "Yang Hyun Suk's children" can follow. In order for BABYMONSTER's debut to proceed normally, it seems possible only after Yang Hyun Suk's legal trials. The longer Yang Hyun Suk's trial is, the more likely BABYMONSTER debut postponement will be extended."
