Here's what the second-gen icon said.

Sandara Park Dishes on 2NE1 and SNSD's Rivalry, Mentions How SM, YG Artists Deal with Competitive Tension

On the 12th episode of Kim Jaejoong's "Jaefriends," former 2NE1 member and top soloist Sandara Park starred as the show's guest.

With Jaejoong and Dara coming from K-pop's legendary second generation, it was a treat for many to see the two idols catch up and reminisce their history together.

During the episode, Jaejoong mentioned that people were curious as to how he became friends with the "FESTIVAL" singer, given that he was from SM Entertainment and Dara was from YG Entertainment, two of the biggest K-pop companies that are part of the "Big 3" at that time.

Jaejoong added that during K-pop's second generation, artists were more "territorial" than expected, and that the artists from two agencies didn't cross paths.

Jaejoong: "People are super curious on how we became friends. It started with the movie, but other than that, YG and SM didn't really cross paths (with each other)."

Dara: "So we couldn't say we were friends, and if we ever passed each other, we were careful of whether we should say hi."

Staff: "Because at the time?"

Jaejoong: "Everyone was territorial. Like 'we're YG, we're SM!'"

Staff: "You can't say hi?"

Jaejoong: "There's a lot of stuff that can never be shared in this line of work."

Dara then shared that nowadays, she's a lot closer to artists under SM unlike before. The soloist then confessed that though 2NE1 didn't hate SM artists, Dara shared that they couldn't make the effort to like their rival groups either due to competition.

She followed up that back then, the tensions were high since 2NE1 would always go head-to-head with Girls' Generation from SM Entertainment.

Furthermore, Dara recalled the intense routine of SM fandoms and even disclosed they felt anxious due to the overwhelming amount of SM fans.

Dara: "I'm close with a lot of artists from SM Entertainment now."

Jaejoong: "Yeah, it's different now."

Dara: "We didn't hate each other, but looking back, we couldn't like each other either. Because SNSD would always be our opponent, and tensions were high."

Dara: "And the fandoms! When you go to Inkigayo, SM had so many teams (from different groups) out there. (Fans of) SNSD, SHINee, f(x) would all be there, like with H.O.T vs. Sechs Kies. The fandom of SM was overwhelming, so we'd feel anxious at times."

Dara assured that even though they were anxious, 2NE1 still kept their professionalism on the set.

"We didn't show it on stage," Dara remarked.
