Jaejoong, Junsu Reflect on TVXQ's Hairstyles Which Made Them 'Lose' Fans

On December 7, the 20th episode of "Jaefriends" was released, featuring Kim Jaejoong's longtime bandmate JYJ Kim Junsu.

Initially in the original five-member lineup in TVXQ, the two K-pop veterans eventually became members of JYJ. The episode contained many memorable interactions between the two idols, who reflected on their past experiences in the music industry and their friendship.

However, at the 15:54 mark, Jaejoong brought up the topic of their "Tri-Angle" promotions in 2004. The idol specifically mentioned TVXQ's hairstyles such as the "Hairtail" hair and "Statue-of-Liberty" styling.

Jaejoong and Junsu recalled that the hairstyles weren't forced on them, as they gladly kept up with the required styling during their promotions. According to Junsu, a rumor was spread at the time, saying how members cried when the styles were given to them.

To clear the air, Jaejoong assured that the group had nothing to be embarrassed of since they were proud of their hairstyles! Read their conversation below:

Jaejoong: "This topic was brought up a lot. Our 'Tri-Angle.' The hairtail-hair and my statue-of-liberty hair. If I remember correctly, no one forced us to do the hairdo. We did it willingly, right?"

Junsu: "Of course. As much as I'd like to say things that our fans who want to hear from us today, I heard this story. Someone said I cried after getting the hairtail hair."

Jaejoong: "No. I did not cry."

Junsu: "People really thought I cried back then. I think what happened was there was a fan who was ashamed of our hairstyle. I think she went around and spread the rumor to protect us. Actually, we were very proud of our style."

Junsu: "That's what we thought. Our goal was to put on a great stage."

Jaejoong: "Yes."

Afterwards, Junsu gave a positive affirmation regarding the styles they wore in the past, saying that it wasn't that bad. However, Jaejoong insisted that TVXQ did lose some fans because of their weird hairstyles and became fans of "rival" boy group SS501.

Junsu: "What I can clearly understand is, although now, I do feel like 'What was I wearing?' I don't think it's not that cringey."

Jaejoong: "No. After we pulled that concept, a lot of our fans became fans of SS501."

Junsu: "Really? I didn't know that."

Jaejoong: "Yes. We must have shocked them."
