On January 4, K-netizens took to various web forums like Nate Pann to convey their disappointment regarding the influx of NCT x aespa's dance challenges on TikTok.

Starting this New Year, the official accounts of the two groups have been uploading videos where they do random TikTok trends, most likely taken during their appearance at the MBC Gayo Daejejeon.

In the clips, Giselle and Karina teamed up with Jeno and Jaemin to do the Mac DeCarto and Ponchet feat. VARINZ dance trend. The videos immediately garnered millions of views and likes, the former earned 23M views and the latter 11.7M views.

Giselle also did individual challenges with NCT members, such as Jaemin, and also earned millions of views and likes.

Amid popularity and virality, SM Entertainment continued to promote the two groups by doing random TikTok trends. Recently, Mark and Giselle graced the short-form video-sharing platforms with their entries.

The two idols did the "Bounce (I just wanna dance)" as well as the "Baby" challenges, which surpassed 1M views in less than a day after its upload.

While it was supposed to bring fun and show the close friendship of co-SM artists, not everyone was delighted by the videos, especially K-netizens who raised their brows at the purpose of the posts.

Netizens expressed frustration regarding the random interactions between aespa x NCT, stating that they are not even doing challenges to promote their own songs.

They started to call out SM Entertainment then, asking them the real purpose of the dance challenges and to stop doing it, claiming that the majority of their fans hate it.

• "Aren't you seeing the reactions? I don't understand why you keep posting these when the majority of fans hate it."

MYs, NCTzens Defend aespa x NCT Interaction

On the flip side, there are rather more fans who support the interaction between the two groups, especially coming from the fandoms of MYs (aespa) and NCTzens (NCT).

They defended that aside from showing the closeness of the artists, it is also a wise marketing strategy to introduce the groups to each others' fandoms.

Doing random TikTok challenges would also boost their popularity with non-K-pop fans and lure more people into their fandoms.

In fact, in the past few days, fans emphasized a significant increase in both groups' followers, indicating that the strategy is working.
